DOONBEG’S EXCEPTIONAL AMENITIES
AWARD-WINNING GOLF: Doonbeg’s links course was designed by two-time British Open champion Greg Norman. Set along 1.5 miles of crescent-shaped beach, it was designated as Golf Digest’s “Best New International Course” in its opening year. Doonbeg also offers a unique practice facility which includes a driving range, putting green, pitching area, and two bunkers. Our golf professionals are happy to arrange private or group lessons. The team can also provide you with the latest video and bio-mechanical analysis of the golf swing.
TRANQUIL SPA: Enjoy a remarkable experience for mind, body, and spirit in White Horses Spa (located in the Lodge). Designed by Clodagh of Clodagh Design International, named one of the world’s 100 leading interior designers by Architectural Digest, White Horses Spa offers signature treatments using natural, indigenous ingredients. Guests may also avail of the deep-soaking whirlpools, steam room, sauna, and the fitness centre which offers an array of high-tech equipment. Resident experts are on hand to design a personalized exercise programme for guests.
EXCEPTIONAL DINING: Enjoy a fabulous dining experience in The Long Room or a more casual evening with pints and music in Darby’s pub. James Beard Award winner Tom Colicchio, well-known for his New York restaurants Gramercy Tavern and Craft, lent his distinctive style to Doonbeg’s cuisine, which showcases fresh, local ingredients.
LOCAL ATTRACTIONS IN AND AROUND DOONBEG:
FISHING AT DOONBEG: We have stocked our lagoons with rainbow trout and brown trout for recreational fishing. Rainbow trout and brown trout are a hard fighting game fish that will often leap and make runs when and if you are lucky enough to hook one. They are also tasty and there are many superb recipes and techniques for cooking our fishy little friends. Catch them, bring them back to The Lodge, and we will cook them at Darby’s for you.
THE CLIFFS OF MOHER: The majestic Cliffs of Moher, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, are one of Ireland’s most spectacular sights. Located just north of Lahinch, the Cliffs rise from the Atlantic to heights of 214m and stretch for 8km along the coast.
The Cliffs claim one of the most astonishing views in Ireland, and on a clear day the Aran Islands are visible in Galway Bay as well as are the valley and hills of Connemara.
THE BURREN: A vast limestone plateau occupying an area of over one hundred square miles in North Clare, the Burren is home to various flora, both native species and those found only in other parts of the world, as well as a large variety of animals and birds.
HISTORICAL SITES AND GARDENS: Western Ireland has so many historical sites that visiting them all would be quite a task for even the most dedicated history buff. To get you started, we recommend Bunratty Castle and Folk Park, Dunguaire Castle, Coole Park and Gardens, Vandeleur Walled Gardens, Quin Abbey, and much more.
ACTIVE PURSUITS: The area around Doonbeg provides endless opportunities for the whole family, including cycling, fishing, hiking, horse riding, sailing, surfing, and swimming. Other activities around Doonbeg include dolphin watching, Gaelic games, cooking classes, and more.
